Benja Blue, a beautiful snow bengal, was my constant companion when I was younger. When I moved out of my parents’ house I still considered him to be mine. He was born on my birthday in 2000 and sadly recently died on the 8th January 2016, at 15 1/2 years old. I don’t think you ever get over a beloved pet, but time makes it easier.
For my mother’s birthday I decided to commemorate our dear friend with an enamel pet portrait, made from ground glass fused with metal. The beauty of this art form is that the colours will never fade. It was mounted in an American white oak frame with burned details.
If you wish to find out more about the process of making this piece, please read this blog post where I detail my working method.
Rest in Peace, little man.
